You’ve just collected your new house keys. Everything has just been moved into your new house. You've finally achieved your goal of owning your own house, but what should you do next?
Before you start purchasing any more additions to your new house, you need to make sure all your paperwork is in check. Confirm that all your utilities are running. You will regret not checking when you want to take a warm bath and you are greeted with ice cold water. It is important to make sure that all your must-have utilities are connected and running.
Update your particulars. Make a list of all your cards, bills, and mail that need to be updated with your new address. This includes heading to your nearest police station to update your Identity Card.
You have so many boxes, where do you start unpacking? First things first, unpack your boxes in order or what you need. You will definitely need to unpack your toiletries, some of your dinnerware, and any other must-haves that you will need to use.
To make it easy for yourself, you should plan ahead before packing and pack one box separately which contains your needs. This way, you can easily unpack just that 1 boc so that you are set for the day 2-3 days.
Make a list
If you haven’t already, it is time to make a list of the important things that need to be in your home! This list should strictly be appliances around your house that you NEED to keep your household running. If not, you will find yourself scratching your head because you have an expensive coffee maker but no ice cubes because you forgot to buy a fridge.
Of course, that is an extreme example, but you get the point. Your list should have appliances that you need such as your refrigerator, washing machine, and cleaning essentials.
Spend some time researching
Assuming you don’t have any furniture yet, you may want to put aside a little time researching some themes and overall looks that you want your house to have. Will it be modern and minimalistic, or warm and home-y? Look up some interior designs and let that be your inspiration. Here at Andglazed, we segmented our collections into popular home themes for easy shopping, you may find our guide here.
Once you have a good idea of what you want to purchase to achieve your dream home, make a list! This time, it's not an essential-only list. Include everything that you want to buy for your home in this list. From there, organize them in order of importance and plan your purchases for your items. You can buy them all at one shot if you’re sure, or you can buy your furniture and items slowly so that you don’t burn a hole in your wallet too fast.
Try creating a list with categories :
- Kitchen Appliances - Ovens, coffee maker , pots..
- Home Appliances & wares - Electronics , carpets , curtains
Have a maintenance plan
Once you have unpacked all your boxes and everything is organized, don’t forget to come up with a maintenance plan for yourself. Plan how often you need to clean, or how often you need to set up maintenance appointments for your air conditioning. Have a schedule of what you need to do to maintain your household so that you feel organized!
Tip: Look out for life hacks for your household on your social media! It can truly be helpful. You may find the perfect cleaning equipment on Carousel, or find your favourite organizing hack on Tiktok. You never know, so keep a lookout!
Lastly, don’t forget to have a blast! It’s your first house, so enjoy every moment of it!
